Database Management

MS Access

In this block we concentrate directly on MS Access itself. We start by looking at tables in general and comparing them to how database tables are laid out.

We can enter a vast amount of different data types into a database table and therefore we must ensure that only the right type of data goes into the right place.

Humans are used to fill in forms and therefore it is easier for us, when using a compute if the form on the screen are laid out in the same manner as the paper forms that they are

Databases can be very large and therefore if we need a

Charles Bachman

Charles Bachman was a pioneering American computer scientist known for his fundamental contributions to early database management systems. He developed the Integrated Data Store (IDS), a precursor to modern databases, in the 1960s, utilizing the navigational data model. A Turing Award recipient, his work significantly influenced database technology before the widespread adoption of the relational model.

Human Computer Interaction

Edgar F. Codd was a British computer scientist at IBM who revolutionized data management. In 1970, he published his seminal paper proposing the relational model for databases. This theoretical framework, organizing data into tables and using relationships between them, became the foundation for relational databases and database management systems used widely today, earning him the prestigious Turing Award in 1981.
